It has been reported in Businessweek magazine that mining giant BHP Billiton, the largest of its kind in the world, is considering the acquisition of an aluminium company.

Norway: Søral negotiates new eight-year power deal
Primary aluminium producer Sør-Norge Aluminium (Søral), jointly owned by Rio Tinto Alcan and Norsk Hydro and based in Norway, has signed electricity contracts with Agder Energi, Lyse, Statkraft and Hydro for the long term annual supply of electric power.

The International Aluminium Institute has reported that world aluminium output (excluding China) averaged 67kt/day in September, up from 66.9kt in August but down from 70.8kt in September 2011.
