This year, aluminium ingot production reached 140kt between March and August 2012, according to Mohammad Fatemian, a senior official of Iran's Ministry of Industries, Mines and Trade.

Alumina output rose to 91kt, the Ministry reported.

Iran's top three aluminium producers are Iralco, Hormozgan Aluminium Company and Almahdi Aluminium Company, ranking first to third.

Iralco was responsible for 62% of ingot exports and Almahdi Aluminium 37%.

According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organisation (IMIDRO), an estimated US$206 million worth of aluminium was sold by Iranian companies during Q1 of 2012, an increase of 13% over the same period last year.

Iran's star player in aluminium terms was Almahdi, which apparently experienced 82% sales growth. The company raised its aluminium ingot exports by 48%, it is claimed.
