Shawinigan Aluminum Inc. (SAI) recently announced the launch of its new aluminium recycling centre as part of their $10 million investment which will recycle 30,000 metric tons of aluminium per year.
The added recycling capacity is on top of the billet supply of 60,000 metric tons per year. The recycled produce amounts to 50% of the total supply of billets, and with the addition of the ASI recycling centre, more than 50,000 metric tons of recycling capacity aluminium per year is located Groupe Sotrem-Maltech, Quebec .
The focus on circular production recycling and processing of aluminium scrap into high quality billets is possible with SAI’s new remelting facility, meeting the demands for quality recycled products achieved by sustainable solutions. The project will also enable additional operational flexibility to SAI, allowing it to expand its product range.

He continued with the acknowledgment of their partnership with Rio Tinto,
“This project, which was carried out in collaboration with our partner Rio Tinto, increases SAI’s offer for low carbon footprint products. With quality at the core of SAI’s focus, we will also work with Rio Tinto to provide customer certification for all products made from recycled aluminium. “
