In its Sustainability Report for 2024 published this week, Qatalum has reported record milestones in sustainability and energy efficiency.
Qatalum saw a 10% decrease in its smelter’s natural gas consumption and a further 37% decrease in CO2 emissions across its operations compared to 2023.
The report also includes Qatalum’s record-low energy intensity of 53.5 GJ/tonne of aluminium.
“As global expectations regarding sustainability continue to rise, Qatalum remains focused on delivering aluminium that meets the world’s evolving needs,” stated Qatalum’s Chairman of the Board, Abdulrahman Ahmad Al-Shaibi.
“We remain committed to lowering our GHG emissions, increasing recycling initiatives and maintaining a world-class safety record while improving energy and water efficiency.”
Since 2019 Qatalum has seen zero significant spills since 2019, zero incidents of non-compliance related to water discharge and finally, zero process waste to landfill.
Additionally, Qatalum saw increased material reuse by 27% and recovery by 37% year-on-year since 2023.
