The first Evoque rolled off the assembly line in Liverpool on July 4 and features an aluminium hood, roof and structural parts made with Novelis automotive sheet.
The advanced roof design is the first production application of the company’s high-strength aluminium alloy Anticorodal-600 PX (Ac-600 PX), which delivers strength and formability in a light-weight package.
Roland Harings, vice president, Global Automotive for Novelis said Ac-600 is 20% stronger than typical aluminium automotive sheet and offers improved formability over other high-strength alloys.
“The increased strength also provides the opportunity to reduce the thickness of the sheet by as much as 15%. This makes it ideal for applications such as hoods, fenders, roofs and doors."
