The leadership at Novelis’ Oswego plant has changed after a series of fire related incidents at the plant.
Plant manager Kristen Nelson and several other leaders at the facility are no longer employed there, according to an email response by Karen Judd, Senior Manager of Global Communications, to an inquiry by Aluminium International Today.
In her email Ms Judd stated: “I can confirm that the Oswego Plant Manager and several Oswego leaders are no longer with the company.
“I want to acknowledge their dedication to Novelis and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. I have no further comment on the matter.”
The decision comes after a history of previous fire related incidents at the plant, including a major fire on 16 September which cost Ford Motor Company an estimated headwind of up to $1 billion, a smaller fire on 10 October, and another larger fire on 20 November.
Ms Nelson was appointed manager of the plant, the company’s largest wholly-owned facility in North America, in 2022 after previously serving in various roles within Novelis.
The 16 September and 20 November fires are what caused most of the damage to key areas of the plant, particularly the plant's hot mill.
The cause of the fires is still under investigation.
