Documents have revealed that Novelis estimates it will cost $255 million to rebuild its Oswego plant after two devastating fires.
According to documents requesting financial assistance with the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency (IDA), it will cost an estimated $187 million to renovate the building alone, with an additional $61 million to replace the machinery and equipment.
The main areas impacted by the two major fires, which took place 16 September and 20 November, was the hot mill and its supporting infrastructure, as well as the finishing mill and its associated electromagnetic systems.
The documents stated: “Novelis, in collaboration with business partners and contractors, in actively engaged in a comprehensive recovery effort – assessing damage, executing cleanup, and rebuilding hot mill bay, finishing mill and all supporting systems to restore full operational capability.”
The documents were submitted on the 29 December 2025 and have since been released to the public.
