Its aluminium production has reached 460kt/y while its CPP (Captive Power Plant) is at 1200MW.
The aluminum major, which is in a diversification mode, had identified Jharsuguda and Kamakhyanagar as possible locations to set up independent power plants (IPPs).
The company aims to set up IPPs with Orissa Mining Corporation and Orissa Power Generation Corporation. The company has targeted at least one IPP with a generation capacity of 1000MW by 2016.
Meanwhile, Nalco has completed two major brownfield project increasing the company’s bauxite mine capacity to 6.3Mt/y, alumina capacity to 2.1Mt/y, aluminium capacity to 460kt/y and power generation capacity from its Captive Power Plant (CPP) at Angul to 1200MW. The company is now ready with its Phase-III expansion plan.
This will expand Nalco’s alumina capacity to 2.9Mt/y, alum-inium capacity to 570kt/y and power generation from CPP to 1700MW. Nalco is scouting for other locations in Sundergarh and Bolangir districts for a new smelter and CPP.
