Mechatherm International has completed the installation of bespoke hydraulic furnace doors on five furnaces at Aluminium Bahrain (Alba).
The custom-designed doors were developed specifically by the UK technology supplier to accommodate the existing furnace infrastructure on site.
Due to spatial limitations caused by an overhead crane support beam, Mechatherm’s standard door configuration was not suitable.
In response, the engineering team designed and implemented a tailored hydraulic lift solution to ensure seamless operation within the restricted space.
The new doors were fully integrated with Alba’s existing control systems, including upgraded panel controls that allow safe, remote operation.
To further improve maintenance procedures, a bespoke door trolley was also developed, eliminating the need to use overhead cranes during routine servicing.
The upgraded furnace doors are expected to enhance overall efficiency by reducing heat loss and minimising dross formation, contributing to more sustainable and cost-effective operations.
