Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) will modernise five auxiliary cranes at its smelter complex in Bahrain.

It has contracted Konecranes with the order, with equipment delivery planned for the end of 2026 and installation scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The company said the modernisation will support safe and reliable operations in Alba's casthouse and mould shop, where molten aluminium is processed into finished products and uninterrupted production is essential.

The five auxiliary cranes play an important role in supporting daily production activities and maintaining material flows in these process areas.

The scope includes upgrading the hoist and trolley systems of five auxiliary cranes to heavy-duty configuration, improving reliability and supporting safe, continuous production operations.

As part of the modernisation, Konecranes will supply new heavy-duty trolley units with an M8 duty class rating and upgraded electrical systems.

The new configuration includes an additional electrical drum brake, adding a further safety layer and meeting the demands of high-duty applications with frequent lifting cycles and continuous operation.

Imtiaz Ismail, Sales Manager, Industrial Services, Konecranes, said: "These auxiliary cranes play an important role in supporting production processes at Alba.

“By upgrading them to a heavy-duty configuration, this modernisation will help improve reliability and support safe, continuous operations.”

Alba is a longtime customer of Konecranes, with lifting equipment installed across multiple production areas at the smelter.
