Hydro’s aluminium extrusion plant in Slovakia is now certified according to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s Performance Standard. This recognises the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium.
Certification of Hydro Extrusion Slovakia in Žiar nad Hronom covers all the site’s operations, including its extensive fabrication activities.
“I’m happy to see our hard work lead to this successful ASI certification process. It brings us a step forward in our sustainability agenda, and it supports our customer demands for aluminium products that are sourced and produced responsibly,” says Viktor Fára, managing director of Hydro Extrusion Slovakia.
The extrusion plant develops and produces around 16,000 tonnes per year from its two presses. The plant also offers multiple fabrication and surface treatment capabilities to customers, primarily in the electrical engineering, building and construction, and transportation industries.
Some 370 people are employed at the Slovakian extrusion plant, which celebrated its 50th year of operation in 2019.
Strong support for customers
“This is exciting for our Slovakian team and for our organisation as a whole. Doing business the right way is what our company is about,” says executive vice president Egil Hogna, who leads Hydro’s Extruded Solutions business area.
Extruded Solutions is the largest business area in Hydro with 21,000 employees in 40 countries. It delivers tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers across the world.
ASI aims to see sustainability and human rights principles increasingly embedded in supply chains. As of October 2020, 56 of Hydro's sites around the world have been certified against ASI's Performance Standard.
