Increasing consumer confidence in the economy is behind the trend, and the German aluminium packaging industry is achieving good capacity utilisation, said GDA Chief Executive Stefan Glimm.

"This positive trend should also continue in the months ahead," he said. Strong demand is being experienced from the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and drinks sectors, he said.

German industry produced 405.1t of aluminium packaging in 2010, up 13.6% on 2009, the GDA added. This included foils, aerosols, drink cans and flexible packaging.

Although demand is good, the industry is intensely concerned about rising costs of energy and other commodities, it added.
