Exlabesa has plans for a €40 million investment in its Soure plant in Portugal.
The project promises to transform the Coimbra region into a strategic hub for the aluminium industry.
The initiative, called Exlabesa Coimbra 2030, will result in the creation of 300 new jobs by 2030, combining industrial expansion, technological innovation and local economic development.
“It will be one of the most advanced facilities in Portugal in terms of production capacity and technological innovation,” stated Ramón Vázquez, Manager of Exlabesa Portugal.
Exlabesa’s Coimbra plant, inaugurated in 2022 with a 10,000m² facility, will expand to 30,000m², while its production capacity will increase from 16,000 to 45,000 tonnes per year.
The expansion will include three new extrusion presses, one of them 12 inches and 45 MN, as well as a modern coating line.
The project will also incorporate Industry 4.0 solutions, which will optimise process control and enable the production of aluminium profiles with previously unattainable technical specifications, opening opportunities in high-value sectors such as naval, defence and mobility.
Exlabesa will increase the use of recycled aluminium from 60% to 90% and reduce its carbon footprint through process optimisation and material recovery.
