European Aluminium announced that Emilio Braghi, Senior Vice President and President at Novelis Europe, will replace Kjetil Ebbesberg (Hydro) as the association’s chairman. Braghi has been appointed for a two-year term starting on 1 January 2019.
Furthermore, at the 2018 General Assembly of the association, members elected Roberta Niboli (Raffmetal) as Vice Chair and Peter Basten (Constellium) as Treasurer.
Emilio Braghi is Senior Vice President and President at Novelis Europe, overseeing 10 European facilities for recycling aluminium and manufacturing aluminium rolled products for a number of sectors, including automotive, building, packaging and transportation. Previously, Braghi was Vice President Operations at Novelis North America and served as Vice President, Sales and Operations for Novelis Asia, with responsibility for all commercial and manufacturing activities in the region. An Italian national, he holds a degree in engineering and industrial production technologies from the Politecnico di Milano.
“I am delighted to be appointed the new Chairman of European Aluminium at a crucial time for our industry. During my chairmanship, ensuring a long-term vision of industrial competitiveness, sustainability and innovation while addressing global trade challenges will remain key priorities. To realise this vision, we will continue to work with policymakers and other stakeholders to deliver on circular economy, recycling, energy, and climate. Looking ahead, I am confident the future for our industry is bright. Our permanent material is not only experiencing a growing global demand, but it is also essential to Europe’s strategic value chains such as low carbon mobility, packaging, building and construction, and advanced industrial solutions,” says Braghi.
European Aluminium thanks Kjetil M. Ebbesberg, Executive Vice President Rolled Products at Hydro, for his engaged leadership during his tenure as chairman of European Aluminium from July 2016 to December 2018. “Under Kjetil’s chairmanship, European Aluminium reached new heights. We positioned ourselves as a strategic industry enabling Europe’s low carbon economy, established ourselves as a trustworthy sounding board and data provider to the European Commission on trade issues, launched our Industry Plus Manifesto for a renewed industrial policy for Europe and grew in membership. While Kjetil leaves behind a tremendous legacy we are confident Emilio will guide the efforts of our association with great leadership,” says Gerd Götz, Director General of European Aluminium.
