Kazakhstan Aluminium Smelter, the only producer of high-grade primary aluminium in Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of Eurasian Resources Group, has announced the appointment of Mr Serik Donbekbaev as President.
Mr Donbekbaev began his career at the Aksu Ferroalloys Plant, part of the Group’s JSC Kazchrome operation, where he worked in the financial planning department. Prior to his appointment, Mr Donbekbaev was Vice President of Financial and Economic Affairs for Kazchrome having worked in the economic affairs team for 11 years. He has over 20 years of successful track record in mining, metals and processing operations. Serik Donbekbaev is a qualified lawyer and also holds an MBA as well as a degree in mining.
Thanks to innovative technologies and new initiatives to increase productivity, KAS reached record production of 263 thousand tonnes of aluminium in 2019. KAS’s aluminium is traded on the London Metal Exchange and over 70% of the metal is supplied to Europe, including Italy, Greece and other Balkans, Turkey, and Spain.
