The Hawesville smelter has a capacity of 250kt/y of primary aluminum from five potlines. One of the five potlines was idled in March 2009 due to the cost struture of the plant and the economic downturn.

Restarting the idled potline is expected to increase primary production by 4370t/month. About 100 new jobs are expected to be created as a result. The process of restarting the potline is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2011.
