Famco is an aluminium remelt plant in Taiwan with a capacity of about 75kt of extrusion ingot. Taiwan is the third-largest extrusion market in Asia, with a total extrusion ingot consumption of about 400kt – and the market is expected to grow.

Hydro had supplied Taiwan from its production plants in Australia and Qatar. Famco mainly serves the Taiwanese market, although it does export regionally.

Hydro said it was committed to expanding its activity in Asia, and the Qatalum primary aluminium smelter which started end of last year and the development of Famco will facilitate this ambition.

The remaining ownership of the Famco plant will be held by the holding company E-Tech, in which Lawrence Cho is the main shareholder. Famco is located in the Yunlin Industrial Estate in Yunlin County, along Taiwan’s western coast.
