The expansion is a third-phase project and is expected to be put into operation in May 2011.

Bosai is also increasing its alumina capacity. Its Pioneer Alumina refinery is to increase its capacity to 600kt/y after a third-phase expansion to be completed by the end of the year.

Its capacity for semis is expected to increase by 138kt/y next March when Alsinta (Wuxi) Aluminium, Company, which Bosai bought in December last year, resumes production.

Bosai has targeted bauxite production this year of more than 1Mt, with output from Ghana Bauxite expected at 900kt and 100kt expected to be produced domestically.

After acquiring the bauxite producer Omai in Guyana in 2006, Bosai reached a deal with Rio Tinto in 2009 to buy an 80% interest in Guyana Bauxite Co, which is an open-pit deposit and has 60Mt of bauxite.
