Mr Baan said he was delighted to take on the role, especially in these challenging times, and claimed he was confident that the EAA will continue to be committed to safeguarding the future of the European industry.
According to Mr Baan, aluminium 'is part of the solution to achieving EU sustainability goals'.
Baan has been executive vice president and CEO of Aleris International since April 2008 and is responsible for global rolled and extruded products.
Aleris is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and is a privately-owned global rolled and extruded aluminium products business with a strong recycling interest.
