Loy Yang will provide baseload electricity to power Alcoa’s Point Henry Smelter in Geelong, Victoria, from 2014 and its Portland facility from 2016. Loy Yang will provide 820MW of power, and with future expansion options Alcoa may take more than half Loy Yang’s output.

Loy Yang operates Victoria’s largest power station and Australia’s largest open-cut brown coal mine.

The company is owned by the Great Energy Alliance Corporation, comprising AGL Energy Ltd, Tokyo Electric, Transfield Services Infra-structure Fund, Motor Trades Association of Australia Super-annuation Fund, Westscheme, and Statewide Super.
