Novelis (China) Aluminum Products Co., Ltd. (Novelis China) has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at its production facility in the Changzhou National Hi-Tech District, Jiangsu Province, China. The plant produces high-strength and lightweight aluminum sheet for use in full structural frames, as well as hoods, doors, fenders and many other components.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Novelis has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard at its Changzhou production facility in China. The plant’s activities focus on the manufacture of aluminium automotive sheet for lightweight vehicle structures and body panels.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The independent, third-party audit of the Novelis China plant was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
“We sincerely congratulate Novelis on achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Changzhou plant – its first certification in China, and 14th certified facility globally. Novelis’ local and global customers in the automotive sectors now have the assurance that the plant’s processes meet ASI’s criteria for responsible production of aluminium.”
– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI
“We are proud that Novelis’ Changzhou plant is now certified to meet ASI’s environmental, social and governance standards. Through continuous collaboration with our customers and industry peers, Novelis hopes to lead the sustainable development of the aluminum industry. We will continue to pursue more ASI certifications for both the Changzhou plant, as well as for our Zhenjiang plant, contributing to China’s national goals for a more sustainable and greener transformation of its economic and social development.”
