Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that AS Oxidwerke has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) at its aluminium salt slag recycling facility in Stockach, Germany. AS Oxidwerke has a processing capacity of approximately 55,000 tons of aluminium salt slag per year. From this, more than 20,000 tons of salt, 1,000 tons of aluminium and 30,000 tons of oxide are recovered annually.
The independent, third-party audit of the AS Oxidwerke GmbH facility was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).
“We warmly congratulate AS Oxidwerke for achieving Performance Standard Certification V3 (2022) at its Stockach facility. Aluminium is known for its circular properties, typically with reference to scrap recycling and its many benefits. Equally important is the recycling of aluminium salt slag done by companies like AS Oxidwerke to keep it from becoming landfill, recover its valuable components and put these back into productive use.”
– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI
“Recycling of aluminium salt slag is key for the sustainable operation of rotary furnaces. Our recycled aluminium and salt are re-used by our customers’ aluminium recycling operations. Aluminium oxide is an important component of many products in the construction materials industry, and by substituting primary alumina, it makes an important contribution towards reducing carbon footprint. We are delighted that AS Oxidwerke is the first dedicated salt slag recycling company to receive full ASI certification against the performance standard. This shows our commitment to our comprehensive ESG programme.”
