ALFED, the Aluminium Federation, Fronius UK and Cranfield University are partnering to bring you an informative and fun-filled day of demonstrations and talks surrounding the topic of joining aluminium.
The Aluminium Welding Technology Event will be held at Fronius UK’s Milton Keynes Technology Centre on Wednesday 27th September and will be ideal for anyone working with this lightweight and future-proof metal who wants to learn how to work more efficiently.
Key advancements are shaping the future of welding technology within laser welding, manual and robotic welding, and in wire arc additive manufacturing. The day creates an opportunity to come and explore these latest advances and innovative processes that are designed specifically for aluminium, hear from industry experts, try out products for yourself, and witness real results – not forgetting an unmissable chance to network!
ALFED’s technical manager, Jan Lukaszewski, will be , providing a useful insight into the topic of ‘understanding and selecting the
correct aluminium alloy’. Jan commented: “This talk will provide an overview of alloy developments and properties, applications and an insight into aluminium as a strategic metal, broaching welding issues”.
Included in the schedule of seminars and discussions, a representative from Hitachi Rail will be discussing the challenges and experiences encountered whilst joining aluminium on its carriages. Cranfield University will hold two talks of their own, shedding light on topics including laser welding and metal additive manufacturing for AI, as well as their own MSc Welding Technology master’s degree.
It’s not all talk and no play. Visitors can expect to see and try out brand new intelligent processes for manual, robotic and automated welding that offer solutions for any application challenges on both the Fronius TPS/i and iWave amongst other machines.
Commencing at 4pm on the day, Cranfield will also be hosting tours of its university laboratory; giving you the chance to look around the state-of-the-art facilities they offer their students. To secure a place, guests can simply add the tour to their basket when they check out their ticket.
A spokesperson from Cranfield University commented: “Cranfield University will deliver two talks on their Welding Engineering and Metal Additive Manufacturing courses and on industrial research activities in aluminium joining and AM. You will be able to meet with our experts to discuss your R&D support and recruitment needs”.
There will be a hot lunch and refreshments on offer throughout the day, so if you are interested in coming to see what the event has to offer, please register your attendance via Eventbrite so that we can plan refreshments accordingly.
Tom Jones, CEO at ALFED, also commented: “The event will provide a great opportunity to network with like-minded professionals in the aluminium industry and gain an interesting insight into the most recent advances in welding technologies. We’re looking forward to meeting our members and networking with some of the most prominent figures in the aluminium supply chain”.
