Tómas Már Sigurdsson has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer for GPP effective June 24. He will focus on the day-to-day operations of Alcoa’s aluminium smelters, alumina refineries and bauxite assets, globally. Sigurdsson had been President of the European Region, GPP Europe and the Middle East. He will relocate to New York and become a member of Alcoa's Executive Council, the senior leadership team that sets strategic direction for the company.
Martin Brière, currently GPP President for Alcoa Canada and Africa, will assume additional responsibilities for GPP Europe, and is appointed GPP President Alcoa Canada, Africa and Europe effective June 24. As GPP leader in Europe, Martin will be accountable for Alcoa’s smelters and refinery in Iceland, Italy, Norway and Spain, in addition to GPP operations in Canada and Africa. He will also oversee Alcoa’s interest in the smelter at the Ma’aden-Alcoa joint venture.
Simon Baker, Energy Director, Europe is promoted to President, Europe Region. In his new role, Baker will further develop the Company's interests in Europe through interactions with key stakeholders, including government and regulatory officials, to facilitate potential growth opportunities and synergies for the operations in the region. Baker will continue to manage Alcoa's energy requirements in Europe.
