The Aluminium Federation of South Africa (AFSA), is one of the world’s most active aluminium industry associations. It has, since 1981, been involved in increasing the awareness and use of aluminium in South Africa. As the voice of and the gateway to the South African Aluminium industry, AFSA offers its members a wide variety of services, notably technical information and advice, education, training, skills upgrading, market industry and business development support, accompanied by access to a range of publications. The aluminium industry in South Africa continues to be a significant contributor to the economy by producing primary metal, secondary alloys, semi-fabricated profiles and rolled products, as well as downstream finished products.

AFSA will host the highly anticipated AFSA International Aluminium Conference and Exhibition (IACE) from 26 October to 27 October 2022, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The conference aims to position the South African aluminium industry as a premium supplier to the continent and the world; and serves as a stepping-stone towards the vision of “Doubling Local Aluminium Demand by 2030”. This ambitious target of doubling demand remains attainable as we saw global demand for aluminium accelerate in recent years, and it is expected to reach 120 million by 2030. The main drivers are mainly from the construction and packaging sectors, and it is undoubtedly likely to accelerate with the wave of urbanisation globally fuelling large-scale construction for habitats, mass transportation, communication infrastructure and packaging for food and beverages.

IACE is dubbed as “the premium global aluminium event of 2022”. Previously having taken place in 2016, the long-awaited second instalment of the AFSA International Aluminium Conference and Exhibition is anticipated to bridge the gap and reinforce relations between the local and international aluminium industry by hosting delegates from all over the world, in varying disciplines and industries.

The exhibition is taking place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) in the heart of Cape Town, on a peninsula beneath the imposing and iconic Table Mountain. CTICC is situated at Convention Square, 1 Lower Long Street, Cape Town, South Africa. The CTICC is easily accessible to exhibitors and visitors and is close to hotels, the V&A Waterfront, and entertainment centres in the city.

To maximise networking opportunities for attendees, IACE will feature three networking events as part of the event. We will start with a site factory visit on Tuesday, 25 October 2022, at the Guala Closures Group South Africa facility in Cape Town - the market leader in the production of aluminium and “non-refillable” closures. Furthermore, a cocktail and prizegiving event is scheduled on 26 October from 18h00 in the exhibition hall. The final networking session is scheduled to take place on the 28th of October, a day after the main conference proceedings, by visiting several esteemed vineyards in both Stellenbosch and Franschhoek in Cape Town. Our delegate registration package includes the above-mentioned Guala Closures factory tour, the cocktail networking and prize giveaway event, and the full-day wine tour, all at no extra cost.

We anticipate over 200 participants, including a full slate of speakers comprising local and international industry experts.

“We are looking forward to hosting you at our event this October as we learn more about the South African aluminium industry.” – said Muzi Manzi, CEO of AFSA.

Only a few number of exhibition booths are still available, so book now before they sell out. Furthermore, various partnership packages are still available, and enquiries can be forwarded to [email protected] or by visiting the IACE website www.aluminiumsouthafrica.com.
