The production increase will be realized by the smelter’s 90kt/y phase-2 project, which completed construction and went into production in October last year. The smelter presently has a 200kt/y capacity.
In addition, the company started building an alloy/semis project last year, with designed capacity of 200kt/y. The project is scheduled for completion in July this year.
The smelter produced 131.4kt of aluminium last year.
Aba Smelter’s potlines are fed with alumina from Bosai’s refinery in Chongqing, which has formed 500kt/y of alumina capacity. Bosai’s ultimate goal is to build up 2Mt/y of alumina capacity by 2014.
