The Alumina Rondon project is the main investment focus for VM in Brazil, which predicts the construction of an alumina refinery alongside a bauxite mine, one of the main differences when comparing to another chain of aluminum ventures in the state.

With predictions for initiating operations in 2017, the Alumina Rondon project corresponds to a R$ 6,6 billion investment from VM.

The venture is expected to generate, on average, more than six thousand working positions in the implementation phase and 1600 positions when the production phase begins, made of own and contracted employees.

“The project will already start as one of the largest in the world, with an initial production of three million tons of alumina per year”, states Jones Belther, director of mineral exploration in Votorantim Metais. The initial bauxite production will be that of 7,7mta.
