Consultant Jerry Marks opened the day's proceedings in the Aluminium Reduction Technology session with a presentation on Continuous PFC Unrelated to Anode Effects.

It was an investigation into continuous PFC emission at two Chinese smelters - one a pilot plant the other an industrial plant. The investigation took place with the help of the Zhengzhou Research Institute of Chalco and the presentation was originally going to be presented by Xiping Chen, but she was unable to make it to TMS.

New Zealand's Light Metals Research Centre's Wei Zhang then presented a paper on Reduction of Anode Effect Duration in 400kA Prebake Cells. It discussed a programme by the centre to eliminate Anode Effects (AE) and facilitate investment in clean technologies.

Further presentations by Alcoa's Neal Dando, Alcoa's Gary Tarcy and Dubal's Ali Al Zarouni followed, all investigating the elimination of AE.

Presentations set for later today include papers by Norway's SINTEF research group and Aluar Aluminio Argentino SAIC.

TMS runs until Thursday, March 3.
