The 460kt/y smleter in Shihezi City, Xinjiang, China took 12 months to build and is equipped with a single 460kA prebaking tank.
It also has two sets of 350MW thermal power generating units to come online in October. Further phases will see production rise to 1.6Mt/y by 2016 together with 10 sets of 350MW thermal power units in operation.
The smelter was funded by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
