Hydro Precision Tubing Reynosa in Mexico is Hydro’s first aluminium extrusion plant in North America to be certified according to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard. ASI aims to see sustainability and human rights principles increasingly embedded in supply chains.
Hydro’s latest ASI certified site is located in Reynosa, on the southern bank of the Rio Grande River, and employs around 320 people. The plant has enjoyed several expansion projects since opening in 2006, and delivers aluminium heat exchange solutions mainly to customers in the automotive and HVACR industries.
“The process leading to this achievement reflects a very strong collaboration between our local organization as well as the support from Hydro Extrusions. Besides improving the stewardship of our value chain, we expect a value that will benefit our customers,” says Jeffrey L. Insalaco, Vice President responsible for Hydro’s aluminium tubing business in North America.
The ASI Performance Standard recognizes the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The certification in Reynosa covers the plant’s extrusion operations as well as its fabrication activities.
The plant’s product range includes extruded aluminium shapes, high voltage aluminium cables and precision drawn tubes. These products are used in HVACR systems and other heating/cooling solutions.
Hydro Extrusions is the largest business area in Hydro, delivering tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers globally.
