Hydro’s aluminium plant in Karmøy, Norway suffered from a power failure, starting 03:50 CET on April 1.
Power supply has been reestablished, but at a lower amperage. The incident has caused no personnel injuries.
Hydro Karmøy has an annual production of around 270,000 tonnes primary aluminium, whereof 75,000 tonnes is the Karmøy technology pilot. The Karmøy technology pilot is not affected by the power failure.
The cause of the power failure is not clear and will be investigated. All available resources are mobilised to identify the cause and resume production.
Hydro will update on the work to resume ordinary production.
The Karmøy plant employs around 500 people, and casts extrusion ingots and wire rod.
