The Brazilian company has announced the start-up of its fourth extrusion line, a US$70 million investment incorporating a new 3.5kt pressure press.
The Hydro/Orkla deal, which is a 50:50 joint venture headquartered in Oslo, is to be known globally as the Sapa Aluminium Group.
The new global business is described as a world leader in extruded aluminium with 100 production facilities operating in 40 countries and employing 23,000 people.
It is claimed that the new business will generate sales in the region of US$7 billion and will have a strong presence in emerging markets, such as South America, China and South East Asia.
