Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) has announced it has extended its contractual relationship with leading luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

Ma’aden Rolling Company’s aluminium rolling mill has supplied JLR with aluminium sheets since 2016. This relationship has been strengthened over the years and is set to continue for the future, having exported more than 100,000 tons of high-quality aluminium sheet to date with various specifications and dimensions used in JLR luxury cars.

The aluminium sheets are used in the manufacture of JLR’s aluminium body technology in their luxury vehicles.

Ma’aden’s 2040 strategy includes significant investment in strategic minerals, which are driving the energy transition and technological advancement globally. Aluminium is a crucial component of electric vehicle production with hybrid and full battery electric vehicles using an estimated 25-27% more aluminium than the typical internal combustion engine vehicle today.

Ali Al-Qahtani, Executive Vice President, Aluminium Business Unit, said: “Continuing our relationship with JLR is testament to the relationship we forged and the products we produce. Together, we have helped create some of the world’s greatest vehicles since we began working together in 2016. Increasingly, Ma’aden’s product lines are being used in new technology that is changing the way we all live – it is great to see our aluminium sheets used in JLR luxury vehicles.”

Andy Smith, JLR Procurement Director – Indirect & Raw Materials, said: “Aluminium will play a key part in JLR’s Reimagine Strategy both in existing and future vehicles. Aluminium is a key material for lightweighting, supporting the transition to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). JLR has a long-standing relationship with Ma’aden and we look forward to continuing this over the coming years.”
