According to Jamaica’s energy minister Phillip Paulwell, the deal ‘provides for more beneficial alumina offtake and financing contracts’.

Prior to signing on the dotted line with Clarendon and Noble, Jamaica was looking at ways of reviving its alumina industry, including purchasing Glencore’s share in Jamalco

Legal action taken by Glencore to stop CAP from shipping alumina to Noble failed after CAP successfully contested the action and the first shipment left Rocky Point in Clarendon on July 31st.
