Reuters reports that China, the world's largest producer of aluminium finished the first half of 2011 strongly production reaching monthly records in June due to increased capacity.

Primary production rose 3.6% on the month to a fourth consecutive record at 1.591Mt in June, up 13.3% from a year ago.

In the first half of 2011, aluminium output rose 5.6% on the year to 8.643Mt.

Industry sources said many smelters had started production with new capacity during the period from March to May 2011 and were expected to gradually increase production through August.

"The output is likely to continue to rise until August or September when the started capacity (in March-May) reaches peak production," said a trading manager at a large aluminium smelter, estimating the utilisation rate in the aluminium industry was about 90%.
