Stemin S.p.A. has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at its recycling and remelting operations in the Bergamo province of Italy. Approximately 120,000 tonnes of scrap metal are processed and about 70,000 tonnes of semi-finished aluminium products are produced annually.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that Stemin S.p.A. has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard at its (41) Stemin S.p.A., (K4) Stemin S.p.A. and RADIATORI 2000 S.p.A. facilities in Italy for the production and trade of aluminium alloy ingots produced from metal scrap. The company is responsible for the recycling of approximately 18% of secondary aluminium recovered in Italy.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the Stemin S.p.A. facilities was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

“We sincerely congratulate Stemin S.p.A. on achieving Performance Standard Certification for its recycling and remelting operations in Bergamo, Italy. Before the recycling of aluminium scrap into secondary aluminium ingots at these facilities takes place, various screening, analysis, classification, and sorting processes are undertaken to enable the best possible use of the recovered materials. Its ASI Certification demonstrates that the company’s pursuit of quality outputs also extends to the ESG performance of its production process.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“Obtaining the prestigious ASI certification, for a relatively young company in the sector like ours, denotes how correctly our vision has always been directed and how much our work is oriented towards sustainability in every aspect. Our products, made primarily from secondary material, ensure low CO₂ emissions, contributing to increased value and responsibility over the entire supply/production chain. We are truly proud of this achievement, which confirms that STEMIN S.p.A. is counted among the best European and global companies in this sector and a point of reference for its customers and partners”.

– Olivo Foglieni, President of Stemin S.p.A.
