Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that Lotte Aluminium Co., Ltd. has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for its Ansan operations, which mainly produces aluminium foil used in the packaging of food, pharmaceuticals, for electronics in batteries and automotive parts, as well as for construction materials.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities.
The independent, third-party audit of the Lotte Aluminium Co., Ltd. facility were carried out by DNV GL.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Lotte Aluminium Co., Ltd. for achieving ASI Chain of Custody Certification, with their Ansan facility continuing to show the way forward by achieving the first CoC Certification in South Korea. Achievement of the CoC Certification combined with appropriate upstream sourcing enables Lotte Aluminium’s customers to leverage the company’s responsible production credentials in their consumer-facing products, including the possibility to use ASI on-product labels.”
