Airfoil have announced a significant step towards sustainability by transitioning to LocAl® Green, lower-carbon aluminium from Capral. This strategic move will enhance the company's environmental credentials and align with growing market demands for sustainable building materials.

Based in Liverpool, Western Sydney, Airfoil has been a cornerstone in the air conditioning sector since 1976. With a workforce of 120 dedicated employees and an annual turnover exceeding $30 million, the company has firmly established itself as a market leader. Over the years, Airfoil has manufactured over a million grills and achieved more than half a billion dollars in sales. The company's commitment to quality and innovation is further exemplified by its Australian-made accreditation, a testament to its local manufacturing excellence.

Airfoil's decision to adopt LocAl® Green aluminium from Capral is both timely and strategic. It responds to increasing market demand for lower-carbon products in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The carbon emissions in primary aluminium production range from under 4kg CO2e/kg Al to over 20kg CO2e/kg Al, largely dependent upon the energy sources used. The global average carbon emission for primary aluminium is approximately 12.4 kg CO2e/kg Al.* The LocAl® offer from Capral includes two lower carbon aluminium options: LocAl® Green with carbon emissions of 8kg CO2e/kg Al* and LocAl® Super Green at 4kg CO2e/kg Al* - amongst the lowest carbon aluminium available globally.

Airfoil's decision to shift its aluminium procurement to Capral's LocAl® Green Lower Cabon aluminium aligns perfectly with its ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and positions the company as a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing within the air conditioning sector.

The partnership with Capral and the adoption of LocAl® Green aluminium are expected to resonate positively with Airfoil's clientele, particularly those who seek sustainability credentials for their construction or infrastructure projects. Capral's LocAl® aluminium can be used towards Green Star credits under the Responsible Products Framework and is accredited under the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s ISupply framework as a contributor to IS ratings. This benefits Airfoil's customers and provides a competitive edge in the market.

Adam Carney, Managing Director of Airfoil, explained, "Our clients, especially those in the green building sector, will be invested in what Airfoil is about to do with these products. It will be a point of difference with our competitors and add significant value for our business."

In addition to LocAl® lower carbon credentials, Capral is Australia's only ASI-certified extruder of aluminium products, demonstrating Capral's commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainability within its manufacturing processes and providing manufacturers like Airfoil with certainty regarding the origins of the aluminium material they purchase from Capral.

This transition marks a significant milestone in Airfoil's journey towards sustainability. Adam noted, "For Airfoil, we want to do everything we can to provide certainty for our clients. We want to be a quality-assured, Australian-made company that produces environmentally responsible products. This move to LocAl® Green, ASI Certified Aluminium is a valuable asset for the business and a testament commitment to market leadership”

Airfoil's adoption of LocAl Green lower carbon aluminium represents a significant step in the company's sustainability journey. This initiative underscores Airfoil's dedication to quality, innovation, and environmental responsibility, setting a new standard in the air conditioning manufacturing sector. As the company continues to lead by example, it stands poised to make a lasting impact on the industry and the environment.
